Scurvy
Sun, a soft couch arm... ahhh. I found Scurvy in the bushes next to my carport in Hollywood, Florida. He was skinny, his hair was falling out, his ears were a horrid mess, and his tail was almost entirely bald. His belly was a tight balloon. I took him to the vet, thoroughly expecting a verdict of "needs to be put down", but after a careful examination, the vet said "He's suffering from malnutrition, near as I can tell", and he went on to talk about the usual insults of being an outdoor cat (ear mites, worms, etc), pointing out the evidence of various issues to me, but he assured me it was no more than that type of thing. So he shot him up with this and that, cleaned his ears, gave him something awful for the worms, some inoculations, and I took him home. He was an adult at that time, which would have been about 1980. To make a long story short, within a few months, he filled out and grew his hair back, and he stuck with me through a move to Montana, two marriages and a decade and a half before he finally passed away. He was an awesome friend, I still miss him — and he's been gone a long time. Pentax 35 mm, ASA 400. Scanned in with an Epson 4870 at 600 DPI.
