At night, I can see this thing from 20 feet away; the tech is a glass tube that has the interior coated with a fluorescent substance; then the tube is filled with Tritium gas, which emits low-level radioactivity. The decaying particles strike the fluorescent substance, which then emits photons, and viola, the glow! The tube is then embedded in a robust plastic surround which serves to protect it and make it easy to handle. The half life of the Tritium should suffice to keep the keychain illuminated for about ten years. There's no danger of exposure to radiation. Spiffy! EXIF:
