We Made a Waterfall

I had a friend who has a Bobcat with a 'dozer blade come over and chew a Bobcat-sized hole in the back yard. We covered that with a pond liner, surrounded it with rocks ($10 for a pickup truck bed full at the local concrete facility) and filled it with water. Instant pond.

Then we took a trip to the lumberyard and picked up two sets of pre-formed patio blocks, 10 sections in total, that were designed to have more-or-less natural shapes. Using some plumber's putty between each layer to constrain the water flow to the direction we wanted, we stacked the rocks on a slight lean into the pond, ran a short run of 1" tubing from the pond to an unused aquarium pump I had and up to the top of the stack, and viola, waterfall. We've got a filter running as well to keep the water from becoming crazy.

Deb finished up by making a triple-nested set of planters out of some on-sale plastic tubs from the big box store on each side, and she found a baby lily pad somewhere and threw that in (it's extended five pads to the surface already... and more are coming.)

We also found some wicker yard furniture someone was looking to get out of their basement locally, so we've got a rocker, a love seat, a regular chair and a table out there for a nice seating group right by the pond. All they needed was a coat of white paint.

Probably the least we've ever spent for the most results. I can sit by this listening to the water burble for hours. I just love me some running water. 😊
