No less than seven detectable carriers on 1070 AM this evening. The monkeys are clearly running engineering out there. That one on the left is about 16 Hz from its assigned frequency. Technically, the maximum allowed is 20 Hz up or down; but if that one was a station I was responsible for, I'd have already torn into it and fixed it. Carriers that deviate this far from their assigned frequencies produce audible beat frequencies on high fidelity equipment. And SDR radios, which are capable of extreme high fidelity. Phbbbbt. (a) AM stations. The departure of the carrier frequency for monophonic transmissions or center frequency for stereophonic transmissions may not exceed ±20 Hz from the assigned frequency.
