N-Gauge Shack on Top of Hill
Part of an N-gauge layout of mine ca. 1984 or so. This is a little shack to lend flavor to a layout of mine that was centered around coal mining. The shack was illuminated, had wired telephone poles leading to it so one could reasonably imagine the denizens therein actually had power, and a little ham radio antenna, because as a ham myself, I could well imagine some fellow, all hermit-like, sitting there spending his time at his radio, endlessly talking about the weather. I built the antenna and the tower out of clipped ends of resistor leads, soldered together. The tower used heavier leads than the antenna; it came out OK, I thought. You can see the antenna easily, but only the top of the tower in this photo. The shack itself was, if I recall correctly, kit-bashed out of a small train station kit. I had fun perching the shack precariously against the hillside, and weathering it, because deep in my heart, I knew that ham guy wasn't ever going to paint that thing. 😊
