This image was overexposed and I had discarded it as useless; I was testing an evaluation copy of Apple's Aperture 2.0, and figuring this would be a really difficult problem, I went back to it and beat the RAW file up pretty hard as a test and managed to get this out of it. I'm very happy with the results. Just goes to show how much information is really in a RAW file; they can look like a total loss (and this one did, all burned out white) and yet you can recover them. Lots of credit to Apple; Aperture is a very good full-frame RAW image processor. This model of the President passenger liner is a 2 & 3/4ths inch long metal model in 1:1250 scale, the Carat C 1. For this photo, it is sitting on my HP calculator case; that's how small it is. That's why I collect this scale; I find this kind of detail on such a tiny object very endearing. EXIF:
