Our old family home in Milford PA, the earliest foundations represent one of the oldest settler constructs in Milford. At one time, this was the home of science fiction writer James Blish and his wife at that time, literary agent Virginia Kidd Blish. Although the home is sadly now owned by the government as a consequence of the failed Tock's Island project, her literary agency, the Virginia Kidd Literary Agency, still operates out of the building. On the main floor, there is a master bedroom; a living room and dining room; a kitchen; bath; laundry; enclosed porch; front porch; back porch; two hallways. Upstairs, accessed by a beautiful old staircase, there are two bedrooms and a half-bath. Downstairs, accessed by a narrow but functional stair, there are three rooms total; one is stone (very much like the pillars you see supporting the enclosed porch in this picture), and that room dates from the first settlements in Milford. Another is finished, of much later construction — that was James Blish's office. The third is a furnace room, and also contains concrete structures for mounting a washer and dryer, though in the last fifty years or so, that role has gone to the main floor laundry room, a sort of afterthought hallway on the opposite side of the building from this photograph. There is also a large attic with hatch access. #jamesblish #vk #arrowhead #milford #sf EXIF:
