Infrared — Rich Crown
Using hoya R72 IR filter. Processing here was limited to using levels in RGB mode to extract the full dynamic range from each of the R, G and B channels. Because this 50D has no IR filter, the red channel is hot, hot, hot! This re-balancing does something... odd... colorwise, but does bring the image into maximum color detail — that's why I did it that way. All processing in Aperture 3. Shot using AF ( can't see a thing in the VF ), and manual settings for aperture, ISO and shutter speed. Basically you figure out what isn't going to ceiling the red channel, so you have full dynamic range there, and then you shoot. Aiming is cut and try, as is focus (hence relying on AF... which dependably gets it wrong, because IR focuses at a different depth than the light we're used to.
