Aurora — With Headlights
Ok, this was fun; Someone else was out there with me, and when they turned their car around, their headlights swept the harvested wheat field in the foreground — but the camera had already exposed the sky. Probably couldn't have planned it this well even if I'd have thought of it. 😊 I got the first text from my custom auroral monitoring system just after midnight; conditions were marginal, but I was pretty wide awake so I thought I'd go out. For the first hour, the aurora was just an oval or radial glow in the north, it looked kind of like a big green tire was sitting in the sky, sideways. Then about one AM, I started seeing some rays, mostly under the "tire." Finally, the oval dissipated and there was a pretty active show, which petered out about four AM. I just about filled my entire memory card with images, at one point I looked, noticed I only had thirty seven shots left, and switched to SRAW2, which knocked it back to seventy. Luckily, the event was about over, so I didn't quite run out. EXIF:
