After talking to the nice people at Pixel Technologies, I whipped up this circuit using a couple of toroids and a couple of mylar caps. Works like a charm; this is what you need to take the RF PRO 1B mobile. The antenna preamp pulls under half an ampere; make sure the chokes are good for considerably more so you don't starve the preamp of current. 13.8 VDC is what you get in a typical car, but you can feed the preamp anything from 10 volts to 20 volts. At ten volts, you'll get a better signal to noise ratio. At 20 volts, you'll get lower IMD. So as it turns out, a car battery / alternator setup is a decent compromise.
