Keyhole Angelfish
This was actually a pretty difficult shot to take; not only is Rachael black, she is very kinetic, always moving, twisting, diving... it was very difficult to keep the shutter speed up high enough to catch her without really objectionable blurring. I would have used the ƒ/1.2, but the narrow depth of field and slower AF on the lens would have presented other problems. The 18-55mm's AF is extremely fast, and that, combined with the 3200 ISO, is what made this photo work. Canon EOS 40D, Canon EF-S 18-55 mm ƒ/3.5-5.6 IS zoom @ 55 mm, ƒ/8.0, ISO 3200, 1/40th sec exposure, handheld, IS on, AF on, available light. Post-processing in Aperture and WinImages.
