Each of the hours, the hands, and the locator index for the outer bezel are furnished with glass tubes, the inside of which are coated with fluorescent materials. The tube is then filled with a gas containing Tritium, which is radioactive; the coating fluoresces in response to particle bombardment from the radioactive decay of the Tritium. Consequently, the watch has a steady nighttime glow requiring no power source or exposure to light that will, according to the specifications, last about ten years. EXIF:
