Evan — 12800 ISO at night
Evan, (sadly) leaving. I enjoy the 50D's ability to shoot in what amounts to pretty darned low light circumstances, and gift you with a high shutter speed. This got me 1/160th of a second(!) which is darned fast for a night shot with a short lens. Dpreview today published a review of the 50D that condemned the 50D's ISO 12800 capability as "pointless", and I'm afraid I lost all respect for their reviewer at that point. Half of each day, on average, is in darkness, and I blinking well adore having a camera that doesn't become half-blind before the sun even drops below the horizon. Noisy? Sure. But not everything is about low noise. Sometimes you just want to record what is going on around you. So to Dpreview, a huge raspberry. Pfffft! Canon EOS 50D, Canon EF 200 mm ƒ/2.8L USM II prime @ ƒ/2.8, ISO 12800, 1/160th sec. exposure, handheld, available light. EXIF:
