Dumbbell Nebula
Canon EOS 50D, hooded Canon EF 200mm ƒ/2.8L USM II prime [φ72mm] @ ƒ/5.6, ISO 3200, 3 minutes x 9 frames using Satechi timer with the 50D's "bulb" mode, stacked in WinImages, levels and RAW to JPEG conversion in Aperture, tracking with Astrotrac. I used Jupiter's moons, in liveview, to obtain critical focus, then ISO 12800 with ƒ/2.8 @ 2 seconds to locate the nebula. Once centered, I shot the long exposures. This image is a 1:1 crop from the stacked 50D result. As a side note, I was out on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, and I was treated to a whole *bunch* of coyotes howling; they started up to the west of me, and a bunch to the northeast answered. Being able to see the glow of Glasgow's lights on the horizon didn't do anything to ease the "just climb slowly into the car" itch that immediately struck me. 😊 I didn't run off... but I sure *wanted* to!
