IR to B&W
Processing here used in RGB mode to extract the full dynamic range from the R channel, then my B&W mixer was used to move that range to B&W. Because this 50D has no IR filter, the red channel is hot, hot, hot! All processing in Aperture 3; I used both the Nik DFine and Nik Viveza Aperture plugins as well. Shot using AF (can't see a thing in the VF), and manual settings for aperture, ISO and shutter speed. Basically you figure out exposure isn't going to ceiling the red channel, so you have full dynamic range there, and then you shoot. Aiming is cut and try, as is focus (hence relying on AF... which dependably gets it wrong, because IR focuses at a different depth than the light we're used to. EXIF:
