That's NGC 1924, a magnitude 13.3 DSO. Photo was taken with an unmodified 50D and a Canon 200 mm ƒ/2.8L lens from an Astrotrac mount. This is the result of six frames, stacked in DTank, which is free OSX DSLR specialized software with key integral astro features. NGC 1924 is a fine barred spiral galaxy with an inner ring in the constellation of Orion not 2 degrees from the Great Orion Nebula, M42. The fact that it is an IRAS object indicates a lot of dust. A rough distance estimate for NGC 1924 is 133 million light years, and at that distance its true diameter would be about 62,000 light years.
