James Blish Awards and Memoriabilia Collection
Here you see JB's three Hugo awards; one from the fifties for A Case of Conscience, and two more given posthumously. The middle award was in the possession of the Bodlian Library in England for some years. You may notice that the middle Hugo is missing its brass plaque, and that it is no longer on its original base. Luckily, I have a black and white photo of the award upon which you can just barely make out the text; it is my intention to have the brass plate remade. That Astounding contains his first published words. The beautiful brass telescope is for his induction into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 2002. It came in the wood case you see to the right. The watch and the Phi Beta Kappa key in the base of the watch case were his, left to me when he passed away. The papers are his hand-written order to subscribe to Astounding as a pre-teen in the 1930's. My apologies for the dust. I don't handle or polish these items; it seems to me that putting wear on them is a greater sin than letting them get dusty. EXIF:
